Job Title: Seasonal Grounds Horticulturist

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Hours: Seasonal (6:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday but occasional evening or weekend hours may be needed)

Pay Rate: $16.25/hour

Summary:

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is seeking a Seasonal Grounds Horticulturist. Under the direct supervision of the Horticulture Grounds Supervisor and Lead, this position is a general grounds maintenance position with a primary responsibility of turf and landscape management.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

• Provide manual labor in turf management at the Zoo including mowing, weed trimming and manual weed control.
• Weekly watering on non-irrigated areas, fertilization, pest, disease and weed management as directed.
• Provide manual labor for the care and maintenance of all trees, shrubs and perennials in Rosenblatt Zone.
• Provide manual labor in support of other areas on the horticulture depart as necessary.
• Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Experience in commercial landscape maintenance.
• Possession of a current and valid drivers license is required upon employment.
• Experience in operating commercial mowing, trimming, and general maintenance equipment.
• Identification on the most common species of trees, shrubs and perennials.
• General knowledge of the most common species of trees, shrubs and perennials.
• Familiar with common pest, disease and weed identification.
• Understanding basic record keeping.
• Nebraska pesticide applicators license is a plus. 
• Horticulture degree is a plus.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

• Work is normally performed in an outside work environment and in all types of weather.
• Physical effort required including the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• This position may require flexible hours to accommodate the campus environment with minimal disruption to our guests.
