Job Description:

In this role, you will be responsible for leading a crew in the breeding, growing, planting and displaying flowers, shrubs, and other plants in public buildings, parks, property, or rights-of-way.

 Examples of Duties:

  • Supervises crew planting and maintaining flower, shrub and plant beds and displays in City buildings or parks using various equipment and hand tools.
  • Inspects greenhouse, hothouses, potting sheds, experimental growing areas, and other areas to determine need for repair and to observe activities of workers.
  • Maintains inventory of propagation and growing equipment and supplies, and orders additional materials as needed.
  • Maintains all equipment and tools in good working condition.
  • Inspects work areas to determine type of work required and materials and equipment to be used.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Interprets policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Interprets job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of output.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of the division.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned.

 Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree (AA/AS) and 2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software.

 Other Necessary Requirements:

  • May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
  • In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs.
