Job Description:
In this role, you will be responsible for leading a crew in the breeding, growing, planting and displaying flowers, shrubs, and other plants in public buildings, parks, property, or rights-of-way.
Examples of Duties:
- Supervises crew planting and maintaining flower, shrub and plant beds and displays in City buildings or parks using various equipment and hand tools.
- Inspects greenhouse, hothouses, potting sheds, experimental growing areas, and other areas to determine need for repair and to observe activities of workers.
- Maintains inventory of propagation and growing equipment and supplies, and orders additional materials as needed.
- Maintains all equipment and tools in good working condition.
- Inspects work areas to determine type of work required and materials and equipment to be used.
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
- Interprets policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
- Interprets job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of output.
- Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Maintains time and production records.
- Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of the division.
- Performs any other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Associate's degree (AA/AS) and 2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software.
Other Necessary Requirements:
- May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs.
