Assistant Horticulturist

Status: Seasonal, Full Time, Non-Exempt

Responsibility: Medium level of supervision needed. Low level of operational decision making.

Reports to: Golf & Grounds Superintendent, Horticulturist, and the Assistant Superintendents

Skills:

• Excellent Grounds Maintenance Skills – Grass mowing, landscaping, plant trimming, grounds aesthetics, knowledge of grass growing process, irrigation techniques, golf course drainage, plant fertility, and pesticides.
• Excellent Teamwork and Communication Skills – Interact, work and relate with people, listen, speak, read, write, observe, use English fluently.
• Advanced Customer Service Skills – Product knowledge, problem-solving skills, time management, attentiveness, patience, positive attitude, a willingness to go the extra mile, responsibility, professionalism.
• Excellent Safety Skills – Observe safety rules, safely operate equipment, CPR and First Aid.
• Basic Driving Skills – Possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Be able to drive cars with manual and automatic transmission. Parking skills.

Effort: High - Walk and stand for extended periods of time. Bend, reach, push, pull, lift and carry up to 75 pounds.

Work Conditions: Level 5 - Mostly outdoors, working in hot/cold environment, inclement weather, variable schedule based on business demands, most duties require working with hazards, constantly working with heavy equipment.

Duties:

• Operate various types of light equipment for the care of the golf course, equipment and facilities. Operate a weed eater, mowers, vehicles and equipment as necessary;
• Utilize a variety of hand and power tools in landscape maintenance and facilities maintenance work.
• Maintain trees and shrubs, flower beds along with the areas surrounding trees and shrubs.
• Perform semi-skilled tasks involving the maintenance, construction, and repair of golf course;
• May assist in other sections of the Department of Golf as necessary; Perform other such duties as may be assigned.
