POSITION SUMMARY

 

Responsible for the cultivation and care of the landscaping and grounds of Messina Hof including the estate gardens and the estate grounds. This position is responsible for the overall presentation of all outdoor areas to create an attractive presentation to guests and visitors.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Develop and implement seasonal landscape plans for winery grounds, gardens, and outdoor event spaces.
  • Maintain lawns, flowerbeds, trees, shrubs, and ornamental plantings to ensure year-round beauty and functionality.
  • Coordinate planting schedules, soil preparation, pruning, mulching, and irrigation.
  • Ensure winery grounds are event-ready for weddings, tours, festivals, and hospitality programs.
  • Select, propagate, and care for plants appropriate to the local climate and winery brand aesthetic.
  • Monitor plant health, manage pests and diseases, and implement sustainable horticultural practices.
  • Apply pesticide to rid grounds of pests such as mosquitoes, wasps, ticks, and others.
  • Apply fertilizer to grounds to enhance growth.
  • Maintain landscaping equipment and tools in safe working condition.
  • Manage landscaping budgets, order supplies, and coordinate with outside vendors when necessary.
  • Supervise seasonal or part-time landscaping staff as needed.
  • Work with vineyard and operations teams as needed to maintain property and vineyard.  
  • Perform additional duties as deemed necessary for successful operation of the vineyard and gardens

Qualifications

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Competency Statement(s)

  • Ability to carry out detailed or oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of Texas climate, soil, native plants, and sustainable landscaping practices.
  • Hands-on skills in planting, irrigation, pruning, equipment operation, and pest management.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of professional experience in horticulture, landscaping, or groundskeeping.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as well as bend and climb.  The employee is frequently required to stand for long periods of time.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
