The Talon Tribe is hiring a full-time Horticulturalist! 

  

The Horticulturist is responsible for maintaining the Clubhouse grounds, including all lawns and flowerbeds, to the highest standards. This includes the tennis courts, pool, front entrance, and clubhouse surrounds. This hands-on management position requires a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. It is Full-Time with great benefits and a salary based on experience.

Essential Functions: 

  1. Manages the ornamental nursery facilities.
  2. Selects, purchases, or grows plant materials (except trees and larger shrubs) for ornamental use on and around the golf course, clubhouse, and other buildings.
  3. Designs and executes plantings for existing or additional beds. 
  4. Cultivates flowers/plants for indoor and outdoor arrangements.
  5. Trims and prunes hedges and shrubbery.
  6. Rakes leaves, picks up fallen branches, removes and disposes of them properly.
  7. Loads and spreads bark mulch or mushroom compost.
  8. Prunes small trees and shrubs at appropriate times with hand tools or electric trimmers.
  9. Keeps beds edged and mulched, garden areas weeded and trims plants if they grow into walkways or roadways.
  10. Hand-waters with hoses and sprinklers when necessary.
  11. Plants annuals and perennials in accordance with seasonal guidelines.
  12. Assists with running the Club’s Gardening Club, instructing Members on gardening techniques, arrangements, and other similar topics.
  13. Supervises small crews as needed.
  14. Applies pesticides and fertilizers to ornamental plantings.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in but not limited to mulching, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, planting etc. 
  • Experience with motorized hand tools and backpack blowers.
  • The ability to design and plan/plant bulbs and annuals and be responsible for the seasonal care of said materials.
  • Degree/Certificate in Plant Science or related field preferred, or commensurate experience.
  • A positive attitude and is a self-starter, someone that will anticipate the needs of the club and the landscape and take pride in his/her work.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Organized and self-motivated.
  • A valid driver’s license. 

Physical Demands: 

  • Must be able to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Occasional exposure to chemicals, electricity, fumes, and moving parts.
  • Occasional exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.
  • Ability to lift 20+ pounds, push/pull, bend, and climb when required.
