Gardener/Horticulturist

Rocking Horse Ranch Resort, an award winning family friendly resort located in Highland, NY, is seeking a skilled Lead Gardener/Horticulturist to take charge of our gardens and greenhouse operations. The ideal candidate must continue the Rocking Horse tradition in maintaining our beautifully established facilities.

• Works directly with Landscape & Grounds Director
• Expert horticultural experience in garden and greenhouse operations
• Extensive knowledge of plant and flower species required
• Experience in large properties with established gardens
• Oversee health and wellness of all resort gardens and plantings; working knowledge of flower bed fertilizing and pest/disease control
• Experience in plant bed landscape layout
• Experience in purchasing annuals, tropicals and other greenhouse stock a plus
• Be able to train and mentor grounds keeping team members in basic garden maintenance including planting, weeding, deadheading etc.
• Working knowledge of vegetable gardens, organics and herbaceous settings
• Have a primary understanding of woodlands and ponds
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Have exceptional attention to detail
• Capable of interacting pleasantly with resort guests
• Physical capacity to navigate around a 300+ acre resort with mountain activities and diverse weather conditions
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
