DescriptionThe Fischer Farm Horticulturalist 2, installs, cultivates, and maintains the ornamental flowers, shrubs, crops and vegetable gardens at Fischer Farm as well as assisting with harvesting and selling of crops. This position uses mechanical equipment including tillers and a tractor.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all farm visitors.
- Prepares soil in garden beds/fields prior to planting crops and flowers.
- Applies fertilizers and pesticides as directed.
- Transplants, direct seeds and/or divides plant materials as directed.
- Harvests crops and prepares them for sale.
- Operates all mechanized equipment and tools as directed
- Drives farm vehicles and tractor as directed.
- Supervises part-time staff and volunteers
- Maintains farm harvest records as directed.
- Assists as needed with farm educational programs and camp.
- Maintains, cleans and repairs gardening hand tools and equipment.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
- Horticulturalist 2 must be at least eighteen years of age.
- Excellent skills working patiently and supportively with children of all ages and abilities.
- Prior experience working in horticulture or gardening.
- Prior experience using power tools and or gardening equipment
- Willingness to work outdoors each day.
- Comfortable working around farm livestock such as chickens, pigs, goats and honeybees.
- Must be able to communicate verbally and in written English.
- Be able to solve problems independently and work unsupervised in most situations.
- Ability to communicate and interact with staff and the public in a positive and friendly manner.
- Commit to the full season. Vacations cannot be taken during the season. A maximum of three non-sequential days off are allowed.

SALARY $18.00 per hour
HOURS Seasonal position with approximately 20 hours per week during the spring, summer and fall seasons within the framework of 7:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday, plus occasional weekends. Target dates for this position are May 15th through October 16th, with some flexibility to accommodate school scheduling.
