What you will be doing

The Supply Chain Department has an opening for a Produce and Floral Replenishment Manager for the Mountain West Division, which oversees the buying teams in Denver and Salt Lake City distribution centers. The Produce and Floral Replenishment Manager is responsible for the efficient buying of produce/floral product lines to support Division sales plans. The Manager oversees the adherence to the department’s quality control best practices and ensures that inbound product meets company product specifications. The Manager will coordinate all buying activities to ensure achievement of all department goals, distribution center initiatives, and company profit objectives. Ensure that the highest standards of professional integrity are maintained throughout the assigned departments.

The position will be based in Salt Lake City, UT or Denver, CO and will require aligned days in the office with the local retail team schedule. 

Main responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with two legacy Division and DC personnel teams and facilitate beneficial communication related to products, assortment request and promotional activity. 
  • Lead the Replenishment teams located in 2 different locations, including 2 senior buyers located 1 in each site. 
  • Partner with Distribution Operations Teams from 2 sites that each service a unique set of stores.
  • Oversee QC Operations in both DC Sites.  Provide guidance to each QC Team on inspection requirements that can be managed nationally as well as locally.
  • Find efficiencies that work well in both Distribution centers and use as best practice. Adopt methodology of One Best Way to harmonize activities across both sites.
  • Define and provide overall department goal setting and direction based on key performance indicators that are aligned with the retail/merchandising teams which may vary by legacy divisions. 
  • Interface with other department heads and division personnel to accomplish job functions.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with manufacturers, vendors, logistic companies, store operations, distribution center and division office personnel.
  • Attend key meetings to maintain awareness of programs and issues providing relevant department information in support of fundamental and strategic programs.
  • Ensure the sales plan for all Ad versions is understood and executed by the Replenishment teams and adapt quickly to changing market needs. 
  • Manage the Gains/Losses for Produce and Floral Facilities in the two DCs and partner with each DC controller for monitoring and projections. 
  • Monitor department results compared to projection, KPI targets and overall Goals. As appropriate, identify solutions and recommend corrective actions.
  • Review and analyze operating reports with Replenishment teams and take appropriate action when necessary.
  • Develop and define the best practices for the local buyers as needed. This is with the support from the Corporate Director of Replenishment. 
  • Manage vendor adherence to product specifications through distribution center audits and cutting tests. Ensure product specifications align to all federal, state and local regulatory and company requirements.
  • Monitor key commodity markets and provide forecast information to the appropriate Sales Managers in support of future market dynamics. 
  • Negotiate to secure the best possible product costs, quality and service.
  • Visit stores on a regular basis to monitor programs, obtain store feedback and assess overall implementation effectiveness as needed. 
  • Work with Corporate Replenishment Team on strategic programs where applicable to implement overall best practices.

The salary range is $95,400 to $137,580 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation Pay (accrued based on hours worked)  or Flexible Time Off, paid holidays (8-9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (such as 401(k) eligibility). [If applicable:] Associates in this position are also eligible for a quarterly bonus.

What we are searching for

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent Produce Procurement and Supply Chain experience. 
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in multiple facets of Supply Chain including Forecasting, Inventory Management, Logistics and Manufacturing.
  • 7+ years of Purchasing or Vendor Management experience in the retail industry; experience with a major grocery retailer chain in purchasing or strategic sourcing role with responsibility for working with major national vendors of consumer-packaged goods or commodity food products.
  • 5 - 10 years of people management experience
  • Strong organizational leadership, communication and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in PC systems required. This includes multiple Supply Chain Systems
  • Strong understanding of produce commodity markets and published industry reporting platforms.
  • Must have a full understanding of regulatory requirements including those of USDA, USDC and FDA where applicable.
  • Ability to recognize and understand industry trends and impacts to the region and enterprise.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to make appropriate decisions in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • Strong planning, organizing, and negotiating skills.
  • Must have the ability to represent the company's interests in negotiations with outside professionals and suppliers.
  • Ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions. High degree of initiative and sense of urgency.
  • Exceptional systems skills, especially MS Office and Supply Chain systems.
  • Working knowledge of procurement, logistics, inventory management, marketing, accounting and financial management practices.
  • Demonstrated people leader: build strong relationships, hire great people, commit to the growth of individuals on team and lead by example.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds or more.
  • Work typically performed in a temperature-controlled environment. 
  • Spend long periods of time at desk or computer terminal. 
  • Uses calculators, keyboards, telephone and other office equipment during a normal workday. 
  • Workday is fast paced; some evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Travel Requirements: Period visits required to non-local DC site. Period travel to stores and division offices
