Job Description

Job Title: Part-Time Florist

Job Summary:

  • The Campus Floral Part-Time Florist is responsible for designing, pricing, and caring for all floral needs in a timely and professional manner throughout the year. This position supports everyday operations as well as large events, weddings, university functions, and holidays such as Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. The florist provides quality floral services for BYU departments, faculty, staff, students, and the surrounding community and businesses. This role works closely with the Campus Floral Manager and Head Floral Designer on floral designs, student training, and mentoring.

What you'll do in this role:

Floral Design

  • Create fresh floral designs incorporating innovative use of colors, floral and accent materials, and vessels.
  • Apply knowledge and skills in everyday, wedding, and funeral designs.
  • Establish design criteria based on customer requests.
  • Monitor orders and confirm details to ensure accuracy in flower selection.
  • Design for university, corporate, and residential entities.
  • Provide on-site custom designs and installations.

Assisting Customers

  • Maintain a calm, tactful demeanor in challenging situations.
  • Demonstrate a guest-service mentality with a genuine desire to serve clients.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Maintain confidential customer information.
  • Provide an exceptional customer experience that inspires repeat business.

Shop Operations

  • Process and handle various flower and foliage varieties appropriately.
  • Clean coolers, buckets, and work areas.
  • Special Projects as assigned by manager.

Instructing Students

  • Provide directions, assistance, and demonstrations of floral products and plants.
  • Instruct best floral business practices and techniques.
  • Mentor students in their floral design progression.
  • Work effectively as part of a team-oriented environment.

What qualifies you for this role:

Minimum Required:

  • 1 year of custom floral design experience in a high-volume floral shop OR
  • 3 years of independent studio floral and event design.

Preferred:

  • 1+ years of custom floral design experience in a high-volume floral shop.
  • 3+ years of independent studio floral & event design.
  • Associate’s degree in floral design.

Pay Level: 47

Typical Starting Pay: $18.50 to $23.25 (Depending on Experience)
