Plan, design, and coordinate a wide range of horticultural, arboreal, and floricultural activities to maintain and enhance the beautification of Maxwell/Gunter installations.
Oversee and manage the daily operations of three greenhouses, including propagation, cultivation, and harvesting of plants and flowers for landscape purposes.
Maintain improved areas by performing tasks such as mowing, edging, trimming, and weeding to ensure a well-manicured appearance.
Prune and maintain shrubs, hedges, and trees to prevent infrastructure damage and enhance the beauty and health of the plants.
Inspect and maintain greenhouse systems, including filtration, aeration, and watering, ensuring proper functioning and timely repairs.
Supervise and train a crew of Federal inmates in gardening and landscaping tasks, including plant propagation and maintenance.
Perform general debris removal, leaf collection, and mulching to ensure a clean and professional environment.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards during grounds maintenance activities, including the safe application of herbicides and pesticides.
Requirements:
Degree or Certification in Horticulture, Nursery Management, Greenhouse Management, Landscape Design, or Turf Management.
Certification from the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) or equivalent.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in horticulture, landscape design, or grounds maintenance.
State of Alabama Commercial Pesticide Applicator Permit (required).
Strong knowledge of greenhouse operations and plant propagation techniques.
Ability to supervise and train workers effectively, maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
