Location: Gig Harbor, WA (in-person only, no remote)

Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Reports to: CEO
Compensation: $160,000++ depending on level and duration of experience + medical/dental, matching 401(k), and paid vacation
Farmgirl Flowers is looking for an exceptionally skilled floral designer with strong leadership and management experience to join our team as our Head of Floral Design.
This is a brand-new role for the company, and we know we’re looking for a needle in a haystack. Until now, our Founder and CEO has held this responsibility, and we’re seeking someone who can step into her shoes, design- and product-strategy-wise, without a long ramp-up period. We’re committed to keeping this post open until we find the right person.
We can’t stress this enough—this isn’t your typical shop role. We’re searching for someone whose work already looks and feels like Farmgirl: wild, textural, trend-forward, and never cookie-cutter. The right candidate for this role is a designer who naturally gravitates to and can design with a similar aesthetic. Preferably, you’ve either run your own floral business or worked for a very high-end floral design company – and for at least ten years. We’re specifically looking for a candidate with this kind of tenure because we need someone who is unflappable in the face of all of the challenges of working in a perishable business (delayed deliveries, curve balls with product arriving in a different color, etc.) without compromising creativity or an ability to execute - and well.
We’re looking for someone who not only has the Farmgirl eye but also thrives on staying ahead of floral trends, but pushes creative boundaries and isn’t afraid to experiment with new ideas. The job training will cover supply chain and distribution as they relate to design (a big part of e-commerce), but the true differentiators here are an innate design eye, a finger on the flower-trend pulse, and a proven track record of experience—qualities we’re prioritizing in our search. This role will also help lead our future-forward design vision to ensure we stay at the forefront of e-commerce floral products and innovation.
As Head of Floral Design, you’ll provide design leadership across everything we do: from shipped bouquets (our bread and butter) to specialty activations, press events, weddings, and more. On the e-commerce product design front, you’ll balance creativity with practicality—designing with price, scale, and shippability in mind while still making products that wow. On the events and press front, you’ll also take on brand representation, traveling for events and press opportunities, working with external partners, and executing show-stopping installations that bring Farmgirl’s specific aesthetic to life. We can’t stress this enough: if you are looking for a position where you direct others to do, this won’t be a good fit. We all schlep around here, and this position will as well. In fact, this position will “do” most of the time. In addition, you’ll be responsible for creating and maintaining a training program for our partner facilities to ensure our aesthetic and quality remain consistent across every bouquet that leaves our hands.
Although this role will work day-to-day at our Farm Quarters in Gig Harbor, WA, travel will be required up to 25% of the time and will skew toward the big flower holidays—most notably Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day—but also Thanksgiving and Christmas.
This role will oversee a small team and work closely with both internal and external partners. Direct reports on a Product Team include a Product Manager whose responsibilities include running daily fulfillment operations at Farm Quarters, as well as project managing products from concept to execution. Cross-functional partners include the Farmgirl Marketing and Operations Teams as well as our external publicist, fulfillment partners, and collaborating outside organizations (for example, a philanthropic partner like St. Jude’s). So not only do you need to be a heavy-weight floral designer, but you need to be able to lead a team and create and execute the product strategy and plan.
Not only will you need to exhibit a tremendous amount of professionalism in working with both internal and external partners, but you’ll work directly with our Founder & CEO, so professionalism, speed, efficiency, and discernment are mandatory. The right person will comfortably handle direct feedback, work autonomously, and independently bring their best ideas forward—then iterate accordingly without needing constant direction. To be a fit, candidates must have at least 10 years of floral design experience and a proven track record of holding a design leadership role for 5+ years at one company—demonstrating both skill and staying power. A strong portfolio that shows alignment with Farmgirl’s design aesthetic—from look and feel to color composition—is essential.
Equally important, we’re looking for someone who is a team player and willing to pitch in wherever needed—because that’s the culture here at Farmgirl. Whether it’s processing eucalyptus, cleaning buckets, or sweeping the shop floor, no job is too small. Elitists, delegators who do not “do,” or anyone with a too-good-for-the-team attitude, will not thrive on this team. We value equal parts talent, motivation, and kindness, and we know the right fit will bring all three.
This is a full-time, salaried role where the compensation will match the experience level. That said, compensation will align with your skill level—so please don’t hesitate to apply even if your requirements are higher. Your work will need to reflect the level of the salary range (obviously), but the more experience the better—and we’ll compensate you fairly for it.
We offer a full benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage; paid time off; and a 401(k) with company match. Relocation support is available for the right candidate—we know Gig Harbor, WA (as beautiful as it is!) isn’t exactly known for having a large design talent pool. We will also consider an applicant who can commit to 12 months in Gig Harbor, WA, and then relocate to an operation in NYC. So if you’re NY-based and willing to learn the ropes in WA before returning and leading a team in NYC, that may be an option as well.
Qualified candidates should study our aesthetic prior to applying and share a portfolio that demonstrates their ability to not only fill our Founder and CEO’s design shoes but wow her. After fifteen years in business, there are plenty of reference materials. To apply, simply send your portfolio—or a link to it—to hr@farmgirlflowers.com. If your portfolio feels like a fit, we’ll be in touch.
Employees (and their families) are eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance. Basic life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment coverage are also available for employees. Employees can enroll in our Flexible Spending Accounts program and the company’s 401(k) plan, which includes a company match. Fringe benefits are available for this role. Lastly, this role is subject to our paid time off/sick policy and will receive ten (10) paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
