Job Title: Floral Designer

Job Summary: A floral worker is responsible for designing, arranging, cleaning, watering plants, and maintaining floral displays for various events, occasions, and customers. They combine creativity with knowledge of different flowers and plants to create aesthetically pleasing arrangements and provide exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities:

  1. Floral Arrangement Design:
  • Create unique and attractive floral arrangements, bouquets, centerpieces, and wreaths for events such as weddings, funerals, parties, and corporate functions.
  • Follow direction and advice from head florist.
  1. Flower Selection:
  • Choose the appropriate flowers and foliage based on the client's preferences, the occasion, color schemes, the season, and price. Consider factors like flower freshness, fragrance, and suitability for the design.
  1. Cutting and Conditioning:
  • Prepare flowers by cutting stems at the right angles and conditioning them to ensure longevity and freshness. This includes removing thorns, leaves, and excess foliage.
  • Keep buckets clean, fresh, and mold free.
  1. Arrangement Construction:
  • Skillfully arrange flowers and greens in aesthetically pleasing patterns, ensuring balance, symmetry, and harmony in each design.
  • Utilize various tools and techniques such as wiring, taping, and foam placement.
  • Arrangement construction is based on skill level of employee. You can move up to a higher level of construction based on your abilities at lower levels.
  1. Customer Interaction:
  • Consult with clients to understand their floral needs, preferences, and price range.
  • Provide expert advice on floral options, pricing, and design possibilities.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service and satisfaction. If you are unable to help customer, talk with manager or someone that can help.
  • Keep customers happy.
  1. Inventory Management:
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of fresh flowers, foliage, and floral supplies.
  • Order supplies as needed to ensure a well-stocked floral department.
  • Ensure all pricing and product signage is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Keep all items stocked, clean, and presentable.
  1. Maintenance:
  • Care for and maintain floral displays, ensuring they remain fresh and vibrant for the duration of the event. This includes adding water, replacing wilted flowers, and making necessary adjustments.
  • Keep coolers clean, presentable and full.
  1. Quality Control:
  • Inspect all floral products for quality, ensuring that they meet the shop's standards and customer expectations. If you are unsure ask a manager.
  1. Upkeep of Work Area:
  • Keep the workspace clean, organized, and sanitized to prevent contamination and ensure a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment.
  • Keep counters clear of clutter.
  • Keep floors water and dirt free.
  • Make sure floral area looks and stays presentable.
  • Any smoke/vape breaks are to be taken outside the building. DO NOT smoke or vape in any coolers or bathrooms. If caught smoking or vaping in building it will be grounds for immediate dismissal and or termination.
  1. Marketing and Sales:
  • Assist with marketing efforts, which may include creating promotional displays, taking photos of arrangements for advertising purposes, and participating in sales and promotional events.
  • Communicate with customers with a purpose to help them fulfill there needs.
  1. Knowledge and Trends:
  • Stay updated on current floral trends, techniques, and new flower varieties.
  • Continuously improve floral design skills through workshops, training, and research.

12. Team Work:

o  Stay home if you are sick and contagious.

o  If you are sick you will need to do your best to cover your shift, but you need to give us a 2 hour notice.

o  In the instance of a workplace accident or injury, we reserve the right to do a drug test.

13. Store Uniform:

o  You are expected to come to work with company shirt and name badge.

o  Levis or slacks are expected to be worn to work. Absolutely NO leggings, sweat pants, or pants with holes in them.

o  You need to wear appropriate shoes for you department.

14. Plant Care:

o  Know how to or have an eagerness to learn how to care for plants.

o  Know or learn how to water, repot, and prevent pests and diseases in plants.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in floral design or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of different flower varieties, their characteristics, and care requirements.
  • Creativity, artistic flair, and a good eye for design.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, especially during peak seasons.
  • Physical dexterity and stamina to handle and arrange flowers for extended periods.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Knowledge of basic floral tools and equipment.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding area that requires constant movement, twisting, lifting, cleaning, dusting, mopping, and sweeping.
  • Flexibility in working hours, as some events may require evening, weekend, or holiday work.
