Floral + Container Designer
Moana NurseryFloral + Container Designer
Stem Studio | Moana Nursery | Reno–Tahoe, Nevada
$20–$25+ per hour, depending on experience | Full-Time + Benefits | Potential Relocation Assistance
Flowers. Plants. Gardens. One Creative Studio.
What if your next floral design job wasn't really a traditional florist job?
Stem Studio is looking for an experienced designer who wants to work across cut flowers, living plants and seasonal garden containers while helping shape a growing design studio backed by one of the West's established independent nursery companies.
This is an opportunity for a talented designer who is ready for more creative range, responsibility and influence.
You'll design with premium cut flowers and seasonal product grown by our own Moana Grown farms, create indoor planted compositions, develop outdoor seasonal containers, contribute to weddings and special events, merchandise an evolving retail studio, and help us continue defining what Stem Studio can become.
Why This Role Is Different
Our designers aren't limited to a recipe book or a floral bench.
Stem Studio brings together three complementary areas of design:
Floral Design
Create seasonal arrangements, hand-tied bouquets, everyday and special-occasion designs, and floral work for weddings and events.
Indoor Plant Design
Create living arrangements and sophisticated planted containers using houseplants, orchids, succulents and seasonal materials.
Garden Container Design
Design outdoor seasonal containers using horticultural knowledge alongside strong principles of color, texture, proportion and composition.
You'll also have opportunities to design with Moana Grown flowers, foliage and botanical materials grown by our own teams in Nevada and Oregon—bringing locally and regionally grown product directly into the creative process.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with a developed design eye and meaningful hands-on experience.
You understand color, proportion, movement and texture. You can look at beautiful raw materials and see possibilities. You care about craftsmanship and presentation while also understanding that great design has to work within a real retail business.
You might currently be:
- An experienced floral designer ready for greater creative range and responsibility
- A wedding or event floral designer looking for a more consistent, full-time creative career
- A freelance floral designer ready to become part of a team and help build something
- A floral designer with a strong interest in plants, gardening or horticulture
- A plant or container designer with exceptional floral instincts
We don't expect one person to arrive as an expert in every discipline.
Exceptional design ability matters most. We can expand the right designer's horticultural knowledge and technical skills.
What You'll Do
You'll work hands-on within the Studio while also contributing ideas that help move it forward.
Your work may include:
- Designing distinctive floral arrangements and hand-tied bouquets
- Creating seasonal floral collections and new products
- Designing indoor planted arrangements and containers
- Designing seasonal outdoor garden containers
- Working with farm-grown and seasonally available flowers, foliage, branches and botanical materials
- Supporting wedding, event and custom floral work
- Helping maintain strong standards for floral care, processing, freshness and presentation
- Merchandising flowers, plants, containers and finished designs
- Working within established recipes and price points while also developing new concepts
- Collaborating with our growing, garden center, marketing and retail teams
- Helping us continually improve the Stem Studio customer experience
This is a hands-on design position. Like any working floral and plant studio, there will also be processing, conditioning, cleaning, organizing, lifting, watering and caring for living and cut materials. We believe those fundamentals are part of producing exceptional work.
Help Us Build What's Next
This isn't about stepping into a finished concept and simply executing it.
Stem Studio is evolving.
The right person will have the opportunity to influence our aesthetic, seasonal collections, product development, merchandising, workshops and overall customer experience.
We're looking for someone who wants to make beautiful things—and who gets excited about helping build a creative business around them.
Considering a Move to Reno–Tahoe?
We'd especially like to hear from experienced designers in Los Angeles, Orange County, the Bay Area, Sacramento and other Western floral markets who may be ready for a different kind of creative opportunity.
Northern Nevada offers access to Lake Tahoe, the Sierra Nevada and four distinct seasons, along with the opportunity to build a creative career within an established and growing horticultural business.
Relocation assistance may be available for the right candidate.
Compensation + Benefits
$20–$25+ per hour, depending on experience.
We recognize that exceptional design talent doesn't always fit neatly into a predetermined range. Higher compensation may be considered for a candidate who brings significant floral design experience, a strong portfolio and the ability to help elevate and grow Stem Studio.
This is a full-time position with benefits. Relocation assistance may also be available for the right candidate.
If you're currently working in a larger floral market and are intrigued by the opportunity but aren't sure whether the compensation or relocation package would work for you, we'd still encourage you to apply. We're interested in finding the right person first.

We'd Like to See Your Work
A portfolio or examples of your design work are required.
Please apply with your résumé and examples of your work. We're interested in seeing your design aesthetic, creativity and craftsmanship—not simply whether your career has followed a traditional path.
If you're an experienced designer who has wondered what your career could look like beyond the traditional flower shop or event circuit, we'd like to meet you.
